How Strong Are Jenga Towers? Hydraulic Press Test!
Julkaistu Vuosi sitten
Näkymät 493 t.
Intact or partial Jenga tower which one is the stronger? We try both and some other interesting structures with our 40 ton press and 150 ton force sensor! Don't try this at home!

I accidentally had my cameras running 1080 and high frame rate so I decide to do 60fps video this time :D It's kind of nice but I think I will stay doing 4k so I can zoom in on edit if needed. I had also my really bright lights that messed up the colors somehow. But at least the slow motions are nice!

You should really try pre pressing each block than stacking them very tight together into a tower I’m willing to bet it holds 5,000 plus Kg

For some reason, I’m reminded of my favorite game of Jenga... I was 22 and had a big house party... somehow we got 6 drinking 20-somethings to pay attention and we each got 6 turns playing it properly... I thought it was impressive considering the attention span of people at a party

Have you learned nothing from your previous trials? It was so OBVIOUS you were both underestimating the force it would take. I was expecting about 3 tons, and really though it splattered everywhere at 6, it was being substantially compressed and deformed at about the 3 ton level.

You should press a solid tube of glass. We saw the Rupert Drops pull some impressive numbers, but what about solid thick tube of glass the same diameter as the press plate, like 5 inches high, what do you think?

The representation of the resistance depends more on how you apply it and where. If you want to analyze compression in the center for ex. a slight uncentered angle or measure may change the result drastically

This reminds me of an assignment I once had in Grade 12 (or 13) physics. The teacher gave each of us a piece of balsa wood 4 mm square and about 3 m long. The assignment was to build a bridge from it. The bridge was required to have a specific height, width, and span, and there were rules for making the joints. After we built our bridges, they were tested by piling bricks on them. We were astonished at how much weight balsa wood can support when cleverly engineered. (Afterward, the winning bridges and the wreckage of the losing bridges were displayed in the school lobby.)

Is there some plastic in the Jenga pieces? Cuz i've noticed that there was some very minor warping at 80kg with the pieces warping much more visibly at 2000kg
