I suspect if that Diamond was precision ground to a geometrically perfect cube or cylinder it would have taken A LOT more force to crush it. The irregular shape of the diamond caused pressure spikes that broke it. As you know pressure is relative to the surface area it is applied to and if that diamond rested only on two small peaks the force must have been massive.

You should have cut the diamond completely flat on two sides.

You should get some natural crystals cut to simple cubes at 5mm. With uncut gems you’re pressing on small pressure points. If you hand level surfaces you’d get a better idea of strength.

I think another factor in how weak the diamonds were is the fact that they were raw, uncut diamonds. In the raw uncut form diamonds are naturally full of cracks and faults, looking at the video I think what's happening is when force is applied one of these naturally weaker spots is failing, I suspect a "fancy" diamond as you call them, or one that has been cut and prepared for jewelry use would probably fare alot better, on the basis that when diamonds are cut they actually work around those natural faults so that the diamond you end up with should be flawless, or at least, wont have the major cracks and fault lines in it that the uncut diamonds do, I think truly flawless diamonds are incredibly rare and usually cost amounts of money that would make the average persons eyes water and nose bleed, but either way, you're average jewelry diamonds will have a lot less in the way of fault lines and weak spots than an uncut diamond.
